Blessings and prayers for this week
On Sunday we celebrated Pentecost – the coming of the Holy Spirit – the birthday of the church. Jesus had said to the disciples that after he had gone that the Holy Spirit would guide them. The Holy Spirit would be their teacher and would speak to them just as Jesus did when he was alive and with them. Over the last few weeks the children have learnt how the disciples, with courage from the Holy Spirit started to spread the Good News of Jesus even when their lives were in danger such as St Peter and St Paul were! As I explain to the children, if it was not for the faith of the disciples and their courage to convert people I would not be teaching them about it today!
This Sunday we think about the relationship between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and is known as the Holy Trinity.
The relationship of the Father, Son and Spirit is a relationship where all are together but each person is also different. The Father created the world and everything in it and sent his only Son Jesus to live among us here on earth. Jesus came to help us to know the Father, to teach us how to live and to forgive our sins. When he returned to heaven, he sent the Holy Spirit to give us courage, to guide us in the right path and to bring us faith, hope, joy and peace; all of them together create a unique bond that is at the heart of our faith.
Let us all do our best this week to listen to and love God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and try to live as God asks us to.
