Governors

The Role of the Governing Body

The role of the Governing Body is to support the school in providing the best possible education for our pupils. The Governing Body is a corporate entity and acts as a group. The strength of the Governing Body lies in the talents of its members, and their ability to work together as a team. Governors are elected or appointed by different groups including parents, teachers, LEA, and the Diocese.

Please find attached the New Governors’ Handbook replacing the Guide to the Law that has been uploaded on DfE website today. It can be accessed via the following link.

Governor Profiles

MARK BUTCHER

My name is Mark Butcher and I am the current Chair of Governors at St Bedes.  I am married with 3 daughters, one is at University; another one at Brentwood Ursuline and the third one is in Year 3 at St Bedes.  I am a catechist responsible for Children’s Liturgy and The Holy Communion Programme at St Cedds, our family parish.  I work for a Chartered Surveyors as a Director within the Property Management Accounting Team and am responsible for managing over 15 members of staff in London and others nationally.  I have always lived locally and attended St Aidan’s Primary School and then The Palmer Catholic Academy.

Why am I good for St Bedes? Well, I am a highly motivated individual that strives for excellence in everything and embraces new challenges with enthusiasm.  I am loyal and dedicated and am able to empathise with people to ensure positive outcomes are received, whilst keeping focused on the overall objectives of the school.  I am a strong leader whilst being an active team player.  I believe in learning something new every day therefore I am always looking for new skills that can improve mine and add value to my role as Chair.  I want what is best for St Bedes and all the Children that attend St Bedes.  I thoroughly enjoy my role at St Bedes and look forward to working with the team over the next few years to make St Bedes the best it can be.

EREMINA AGBEDO

I am a Parent Governor and I have two daughters here at St Bedes.  I am passionate about the welfare of all children and ensuring that everyone has the very best opportunities.  My professional background is in counselling and parent support, having worked for charities and children’s centres both at the strategic level and front line.  I bring this experience and understanding to my role as Parnet Governor and enjoy working hard with the other Governors to make St Bedes grow from strength to strength.

MITUS CASTILLO

I am currently a Foundation Governor and have been in post since November 2018.  I am married with 2 children – Micah, currently a Year 4 at St Bedes and Kimi, currently a Year 11 at Ilford County (who also went to St Bedes for his primary education).  I have been working in the further education sector for the past 12 years, looking after the Personal Development and Welfare Programmes for students at New City College – Redbridge and Epping Forest Campuses.  In my role, I work with various individuals and organisations to support young people with their personal and professional development as well as their wellbeing.  With my background and experience, I look forward to working with the staff and governors to ensure that we continue to deliver high standards of teaching and learning and that the children are equipped with the skills and values they need in order for them to grow into successful adults.

ANNA DAYSON

I am currently Staff Governor here at St Bede’s. I have been a member of staff since September 2007 and have been fortunate to teach in Years 2,4,5 and 6. My position within the school is Year 6 teacher, head of upper key stage 2 and Assistant Head teacher. I was very fortunate to see my own three children educated in our amazing school and also to be a pupil here myself – many years ago. I am extremely proud of our school, we have the most incredible children, a strong and supportive staff and a very dedicated Leadership team – which I am proud to be a part of. I endeavor to provide support as a staff governor to our Governing body to ensure that our children grow in their faith, remain happy, safe and achieve the very best that they can whilst here at St Bede’s.

NICOLA JOHNSON

I am a Foundation Governor appointed in November 2018. I have two children, one at St. Bedes and another at New City College Redbridge.     I have a keen interest in education developed largely due to my son having special educational needs and me having to manoeuvre my way around the system to ensure that he received the best possible education. I am presently employed part time at a local primary school. My management experience across a number of sectors has helped develop and enhance my skills. The skills I bring to the Governing Body include ability to take an objective approach, strong problem solving and observational skills, excellent communication skills, and ability to work under pressure. I have a passion for property development and interior design and plan to develop this more in the future.

GEO MATHEW

I joined St.Bede’s as a Foundation Governor in January 2020. I have been a member of St.Bede’s Parish community since 2012. My two boys are currently attending St.Bede’s Primary School. I have been working in the NHS Healthcare Sector for the past 16 years. I have a post graduate certification in Education (Medical). My role is to help and support the leaders of the school in making decisions based on Catholic faith and to preserve and develop the Catholic character of the school. I would be aiming to support the policies and procedures that ensure that our school functions efficiently in the changing and challenging times and also bring out the very best in the staff and our children.

ANGELA EGUAKHIDE

I am Angela and I have been a foundation governor for over 10 years. I am a mother of two and they both attended St. Bede’s Catholic Primary School and I am proud of the foundation that this school helped instil in both my kids. My eldest finishing his A levels and going off to University in September 2021 and my daughter is in Year 7 at Southend High School for Girls.

I am privileged to be a foundation governor (for over 10 years) at my local Catholic school working with fellow governors (foundation and parent) as well as staff to continue to foster an environment where children develop a love of learning and appreciation of our Catholic faith. I am very impressed by the high standards of education, strong Catholic ethos that St Bede embodies as well as the outstanding care shown to all the children that call St Bede their school as well as their alumni.

Being actively involved as a governor (Vice Chair, Chair of Finance, Various Link governors including admissions) has given me a greater understanding of other important roles in school life and I look forward to working with the team (governors & staff) to ensure that St Bede grows from strength to strength.

JOHN DELANEY

I am married with two children, one at St Bede’s, the other at Campion HS Hornchurch. As a school governor I want to promote the school’s Catholic beliefs, whilst contributing to the school’s high standards and educational achievements. I have 30 years policing experience where I managed specialised safeguarding units gaining valuable skills and knowledge of multi-agency working. I enjoy all types of sporting activities especially cycling.  I am passionate about the education and welfare of all children and believe that they should be provided with the necessary support to reach their full potential.
