The Role of the Governing Body
The role of the Governing Body is to support the school in providing the best possible education for our pupils. The Governing Body is a corporate entity and acts as a group. The strength of the Governing Body lies in the talents of its members, and their ability to work together as a team. Governors are elected or appointed by different groups including parents, teachers, LEA, and the Diocese.

ANNA DAYSON
I am currently Staff Governor here at St Bede’s. I have been a member of staff since September 2007 and have been fortunate to teach in Years 2,4,5 and 6. My position within the school is Year 6 teacher, head of upper key stage 2 and Assistant Head teacher. I was very fortunate to see my own three children educated in our amazing school and also to be a pupil here myself – many years ago. I am extremely proud of our school, we have the most incredible children, a strong and supportive staff and a very dedicated Leadership team – which I am proud to be a part of. I endeavor to provide support as a staff governor to our Governing body to ensure that our children grow in their faith, remain happy, safe and achieve the very best that they can whilst here at St Bede’s.
NICOLA JOHNSON
I am a Foundation Governor appointed in November 2018. I have two children, one at St. Bedes and another at New City College Redbridge. I have a keen interest in education developed largely due to my son having special educational needs and me having to manoeuvre my way around the system to ensure that he received the best possible education. I am presently employed part time at a local primary school. My management experience across a number of sectors has helped develop and enhance my skills. The skills I bring to the Governing Body include ability to take an objective approach, strong problem solving and observational skills, excellent communication skills, and ability to work under pressure. I have a passion for property development and interior design and plan to develop this more in the future.

I have been working in the NHS Healthcare Sector for the past 16 years. I have a post graduate certification in Education (Medical). My role is to help and support the leaders of the school in making decisions based on Catholic faith and to preserve and develop the Catholic character of the school. I would be aiming to support the policies and procedures that ensure that our school functions efficiently in the changing and challenging times and also bring out the very best in the staff and our children.
ANGELA EGUAKHIDE
I am Angela and I have been a foundation governor for over 10 years. My eldest finishing his A levels and going off to University in September 2021 and my daughter is in Year 7 at Southend High School for Girls.
I am privileged to be a foundation governor (for over 10 years) at my local Catholic school working with fellow governors (foundation and parent) as well as staff to continue to foster an environment where children develop a love of learning and appreciation of our Catholic faith. I am very impressed by the high standards of education, strong Catholic ethos that St Bede embodies as well as the outstanding care shown to all the children that call St Bede their school as well as their alumni.
Being actively involved as a governor (Vice Chair, Chair of Finance, Various Link governors including admissions) has given me a greater understanding of other important roles in school life and I look forward to working with the team (governors & staff) to ensure that St Bede grows from strength to strength.
